To learn Guitar, it is very important to know all the parts of Guitar. The Guitar that can produce sound without electricity is called “Acoustic Guitar”. The Guitar that needs electricity to produce sound is called “Electric Guitar”. Technically, acoustic guitars produce sounds with the help of wind frequency. The sound of Acoustic Guitar can be amplified by putting a pickup on it.
All the parts are almost similar in acoustic and electric guitar. The common parts of Guitar are described below:
- Body: The part of the guitar that rests at our body during playing is called Body. The body of an acoustic guitar is hollow inside when the body of an electric guitar can be hollow, semi-solid or solid.
- Neck: The long part of the guitar where the Fretboard rests is called Neck. While playing guitar our thumb rests and moves here. According to the const ruction of the guitar, the length of the neck varies.
- Fingerboard/Fretboard: This is another long part of the guitar which is attached to Neck and the strings are attached to it. Most of the time, the quality of the guitar depends on the quality of the Fretboard. The best quality of the Fretboards are made of Maplewood or Rosewood.
- Frets: To play the right note on Guitar, Fretboard is divided into several parts of different width from Head to Body; each part is called Fret.
- Fret Markers: To identify the correct note on the Guitar, there are some marks in the frets that are called Fret Markers.
- Head: Head is the top part of the Guitar. Tuning Keys are situated here and there is a hole in the Head for “Truss Rod”. Truss Rod is used to align the Fretboard. The shape of the Head varies from one brand to another.
- Tuning Key: Tuning Key is attached to the Head. There is a Tuning Peg that is attached to the Tuning Key and the strings of the Guitar are generally attached to Tuning Peg. The Tuning Key is rotatable. The tension of the strings can be adjusted by rotating the Tuning keys.
- Nuts: There is a notch in the Guitar where the Head and the Fretboard meet. There is a white plastic element in that notch which is called Nuts. Nut is the last part of the strings where harmonic sounds can be produced.
- Bridge: The Bridge is attached to the Body. All the strings are attached to the Bridge. This is the last frequentable area of the guitar. The height of the guitar can be varied.
- Saddle: Saddle is a plastic element by which the finish point of a frequentable beat can be specified. Normally, in acoustic guitar there is only one saddle for all the strings. But in electric guitar there are individual saddles for each string.
- Pickup: Pickup is one of the important elements for Electric Guitar. Generally Pickup is an electro-magnetic field that works like a Solenoid where the magnetic field receives the vibration of the string and conducts it by electricity and then magnifies. There are pickups for Acoustic Guitars as well. Normally, there are two types of pickups for Acoustic Guitar. One is “Microphone Style” Pickup where a mini microphone is adjusted inside the guitar. Another one is “Piezo Style” Pickup where a Pickup is adjusted inside the saddle.
- Pickup Selector Switch: Most of the electric guitar has more than one pickup; so a selector is used to control the sounds by activating one pickup or more than one pickup.
- Volume and Tone Controller: There are some knobs attached to the body of the Guitar that are used to control the volume or control the quality of the sound.
- Jack Socket: This is the point where the output jack is attached to play the guitar loudly.
